Faces of Our Success

Our growth and continued success would not be possible without the dedication, creativity, and passion of our associates. They are the heart and soul of our company.

Monalisa Prasad

director of sustainability, Chartwells Higher Education/Compass Group

“At Compass Group, I’ve been encouraged to pursue my passion for sustainability. That’s given me the chance to lead our organization’s efforts on sustainability and to learn from the innovative leaders at Compass Group. From speaking at our labor-management meetings to pursuing my blog on promoting sustainability, I can live my ideals and inspire others to improve. Working here, I’m an integral part of a group that serves the community fresh, nutritious food, even during the most difficult of times. During the pandemic, our core team came together in just hours to successfully deliver 6,000 pounds of food donations to a non-profit in New York that gave people much-needed food during a very trying time.”

Angie Lam

assistant director of dining services, Morrison Living

“Working at Compass Group has taught me the importance of creativity and thinking outside the box. My current staff includes members from seven different countries, and each day is a new opportunity to listen and learn from their amazing experiences. The opportunity to serve our residents’ meals gives me a purpose and keeps me coming to work with a smile on my face. I’m grateful to Compass Group for opening the door to so many opportunities that have allowed me to grow and pursue my passion of helping others.”

Hopeton J Sharpe

“I love the work environment at Compass Group. The company has presented me with great opportunities that have helped me grow and develop my career. I started out as a line cook where I got to be creative and was able to infuse my Jamaican culture into the food. Sharing food is about more than just something to eat—it’s sharing a part of your story. After demonstrating my abilities and contributing in the kitchen, I was offered a managerial position and took advantage of that opportunity. I haven’t looked back since and am excited for my future at Compass Group.”

Hossein Akhtarkhavari

district manager, Chartwells K-12

“At Chartwells K-12, I’m proud to be part of a team where so many of our leaders are women, including our CEO. That’s just one of the many ways Compass Group shows their commitment to enhancing the employee experience while promoting diversity and inclusion for all associates. Compass Group provides training and development opportunities for us to grow personally and professionally. I’ve been a part of it and have watched as they open the door for all tenants to join and participate in the journey—no matter who they are or where they are from.

Tiffany Williams

food nutritionist, TouchPoint

“Teamwork is an important part of the culture at Compass Group. When someone needs help, whether that be another employee or a patient, we come together as a team to care for each other. I am honored to work on one of the most difficult floors—the COVID floor—through the pandemic. While I might not be able to see my patients face-to-face, that doesn’t stop me from trying to bring joy and laughter to their lives in this difficult time. Whether it is making sure they have something delicious to eat or having a conversation through the intercom, I have the chance to make the lives of people better every day. I look forward to the opportunity to learn and grow as a nutritionist at Compass Group and am excited about what my future holds.”

“Collaboration and diversity are personal to me. I use food to build inclusion through social advocacy. I’m passionate about creating change, advocating for others, and combating food apartheid. That is why I started a farm in Chicago.  Finding Justice A Flower and Vegetable Garden organically grows nutrient dense produce and edible flowers for people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to fresh food. Many have taken an interest in my project and have given me a greater platform to teach the importance of food diversity.  I am grateful.”

Timothy Springer

director of patient transport, Crothall Healthcare

“Every day at Compass Group is different and exciting because there is so much variety in the work that I do. Some days I’m busy attending hospital meetings and improving patient flow throughout the hospital, and other days I’m focused on hospital rounding. Throughout my time at Compass Group, I’ve watched the company evolve and change. But one thing that has always remained the same: the great support system. Especially during the pandemic, everyone came together to help each other and work through the challenges as a team.”

“The people at Compass Group feel like family. I work with a large team, but every day I make it a point to warmly greet every one of my team members. I want them to know that I am here to support them and that collaboration is key to our success. When we work together and listen to one another, we are able to thrive. I believe the difficult year we all experienced made us an even stronger team we really pulled together.”

Stephanie Schelle

dining services director, Undine

“Through  my progression from hospitality manager to assistant director to director, I have built a vast network of colleagues with diversity in talent, skills, and career levels whom I can count on as resources, for both myself and my team. Having colleagues and mentors who can provide in-person training or, in my case, offer support during continuing education, has been a valuable tool for success. We are able to rely on each other’s diverse professional backgrounds to help us further our own career paths and, because we work in dining services, we often celebrate our personal differences through cuisine, gathering for meals and sharing a variety of dishes that speak to our ethnicity, upbringing, or life experiences. We value each other for our differences, which makes us successful as a whole.”

Alexa C Martinez

patient services & catering manager, Restaurant Associates

“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned at Compass Group is to never limit myself. With that mindset, everything becomes an opportunity—to learn, to grow, and to evolve. When I was given the unique opportunity to be a part of the opening of two new hospitals, I jumped at it. As patient services and catering manager, I got to help build the very foundation of these hospitals. I also was encouraged to help create our in-unit diversity council.

As a manager, I work so hard to make everyone feel included. Every employee at Compass Group plays an important role in creating a functioning and successful team. For example, we hire many people who speak many different languages, so I work to translate resources and information that may not be available in their native language. It’s all part of the effort to ensure everyone knows they’re heard, respected, and valued.

Some of my best mentors and friends are people I’ve met at Compass. In my 16 years with the company, I’ve been provided with many great opportunities to develop a career that feeds my passions, and a nurturing environment to grow and lead others to do the same. Starting out as an analyst and working my way up to a senior manager, I spend time recognizing and appreciating the strengths of my team and working with them to understand how and where they, too, can grow. I truly believe the world is your oyster at Compass!

“In my role, I am constantly looking for ways to build and prioritize inclusion. In these unprecedented times, I have found a greater purpose personally and professionally. I am focusing on what is important to me and how I want to make a meaningful impact in the workplace. Allowing others to share their authentic experiences has encouraged open dialogue, made many feel welcomed, and created a space for different voices to be heard on my team. Asking the right question and using active listening will help build a bridge for inclusiveness at all levels. One of the most rewarding feelings working with Compass Group is knowing that people truly make the difference in our business.”

“When I reflect on my time at Compass Group, I’m blown away by how much I’ve learned. I’ve received amazing opportunities and met so many great people that have helped get me to where I am today. I started out as a houseman and am now a senior steward. I love my role because I get to do a little bit of everything. From managing chefs in the kitchen to receiving and stocking purchases, there’s always something new and interesting to do. And I love the people! All the amazing teamwork is what keeps me going. Whenever someone needs help, we all pitch in. That means I have the opportunity to learn from each and every one of my team members.”

“The culture at Compass Group is unique. The team environment promotes and fosters friendship and loyalty. And the tight-knit relationships between team members make us a strong and resilient organization. With the humor and personality of so many different people, there’s never a dull moment. There’s always an opportunity to learn something new, overcome a challenge and connect with new people. These exciting opportunities have pushed me to grow and become a better finance manager. I’m incredibly proud to be a part of the Compass Group team and wait to see what my future holds!
