Faces of Our Success

Our growth and continued success would not be possible without the dedication, creativity, and passion of our associates. They are the heart and soul of our company.

Monalisa Prasad

director of sustainability, Chartwells Higher Education/Compass Group

“At Compass Group, I’ve been encouraged to pursue my passion for sustainability. That’s given me the chance to lead our organization’s efforts on sustainability and to learn from the innovative leaders at Compass Group. From speaking at our labor-management meetings to pursuing my blog on promoting sustainability, I can live my ideals and inspire others to improve. Working here, I’m an integral part of a group that serves the community fresh, nutritious food, even during the most difficult of times. During the pandemic, our core team came together in just hours to successfully deliver 6,000 pounds of food donations to a non-profit in New York that gave people much-needed food during a very trying time.”

Angie Lam

assistant director of dining services, Morrison Living

“Working at Compass Group has taught me the importance of creativity and thinking outside the box. My current staff includes members from seven different countries, and each day is a new opportunity to listen and learn from their amazing experiences. The opportunity to serve our residents’ meals gives me a purpose and keeps me coming to work with a smile on my face. I’m grateful to Compass Group for opening the door to so many opportunities that have allowed me to grow and pursue my passion of helping others.”

Hopeton J Sharpe

hourly chef, Bon Appetit/Willamette University

“I love the work environment at Compass Group. The company has presented me with great opportunities that have helped me grow and develop my career. I started out as a line cook where I got to be creative and was able to infuse my Jamaican culture into the food. Sharing food is about more than just something to eat—it’s sharing a part of your story. After demonstrating my abilities and contributing in the kitchen, I was offered a managerial position and took advantage of that opportunity. I haven’t looked back since and am excited for my future at Compass Group.”

Growing Opportunities for Women in Culinary

The Women in Culinary Program aims to empower our female culinarians through dedicated training opportunities, leadership development programs, and an annual conference and recognition event. As the leading food service and hospitability company, we recognize that we can make a difference. Together with our talented teams, we are committed to change.

Being a part of the Women In Culinary Chef Challenge is an experience I will forever be grateful for. I was able to display my culinary talents, network cross-sector, and forge meaningful relationships through the mentoring circles. It’s created a space for women in culinary to ask advice, have a good laugh, and exchange shared experiences.

– Bethany Simpson,
Corporate Executive Chef,
Morrison Healthcare

Women in Culinary—Chef Challenge

The Chef Challenge is the recognition aspect of the Women in Culinary Program. One woman from each sector is identified to participate and they compete for the Chef Challenge title by displaying their culinary talents. Participants can network with their peers across sectors, meet with our suppliers, learn about products and trends, participate in career development sessions, engage with guest speakers, and much more.

Upward

Upward is a formal leadership development program designed to ignite female culinarians by empowering them with confidence, resilience, and courage to excel in a leadership role. Upward prepares female culinarians for today’s successes and for tomorrow’s challenges. The goal is to create a stronger pipeline of women leaders in culinary settings and leverage gender diversity for outstanding business results.

ChefNet

Compass Group’s Food & Drink community, ChefNet is a robust network of local and celebrity chefs available to make an appearance at client locations for the ultimate guest-chef experience. In 2020, ChefNet moved to a 100%-virtual model. Since October, Celebrity Chefs like Elizabeth Falkner, Aarti Sequeria, Damaris Phillips, Amanda Cohen, and Jet Tila have hosted virtual events, in addition to StarChefs and ‘Best of Local’ chefs. Events range from appetizers and mocktails to complicated entrees and pastry classes, offering engaging ways to connect.

Chef Appreciation Week

We believe food is a powerful medium to create meaningful change. Food unites us and chefs inspire us, connecting people across societies, generations and geographies. The world’s largest culinary celebration, Chef Appreciation Week (CAW), offers a platform every September for customers, clients and coworkers to recognize chefs and culinary talent, the heart of our house. The foundation of our success relies on all the great people behind the experience who are driven to make a positive impact on the wellbeing of our guests, health of our communities and the vitality of the food system.

Engaging Tomorrow’s Leaders

Accelerated Manager Program (AMP) provides aspiring managers with a fast-track learning opportunity focusing on management development. It takes a personalized approach aiming to customize learning for each aspiring manager’s strengths, skills, and interests, and provides a flexible configuration for each Compass Group sector. While each participant will have a personalized experience, all learners follow the same program path.

An Opportunity to Advance

The Talent Review process integrates diversity and inclusion through an extensive evaluation of performance and potential—while providing an opportunity to highlight, encourage and develop our future leaders.

We partner with leaders across the organization to ensure personal development plans (PDPs) are created for our future leaders. PDPs empower our associates by letting them know that they have our vote of confidence and that we want to see them grow professionally. This year’s talent review process included the targeted creation of PDPs for ALL diverse high potential associates within a sector.

Recruitment

We are focused on three core pillars that lay the foundation to our talent acquisition strategy. They act as the drivers to ensure we are attracting and hiring diverse talent.

Pillar 1

Building Diverse Pipelines

Promote our D&I philosophy and intentionally market our jobs to increase diversity in our candidate pipeline.

Pillar 2

Internal Mindset

Internally build awareness to mitigate bias and deepen understanding of role as a D&I champion.

Pillar 3

Compass Collaboration

Ensure that partnerships are established and that the strategy is embedded throughout the organization.
